Schach (von persisch šāh Schah / شاه /‚König‘ – daher die Bezeichnung „das königliche Spiel“) ist ein strategisches Brettspiel, bei dem zwei Spieler abwechselnd Spielsteine (die Schachfiguren) auf einem Spielbrett (dem Schachbrett) bewegen.
